Construction Phase II
Picnic Tables, Benches, & POW-MIA walkway
The two Handicapped Picnic Tables and two Benches were an integral part of the Grant Request from the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation. These additions not only enhance accessibility but also provide a comfortable and welcoming space for all visitors.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Willamette Graystone for their support in receiving the shipment and holding onto the tables and benches until the concrete work was completed. Your assistance was invaluable in ensuring a smooth installation process.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to Larry Burroughs Construction for their exceptional concrete work. Their expertise in laying the four pads for the Tables and Benches, as well as creating the walkway and the intricate Star design around the POW-MIA monument, has added a significant touch of quality and craftsmanship to our memorial.
This collective effort truly showcases the spirit of community and dedication that drives this project forward. Special thanks to Larry West for capturing these moments in photos, allowing us to share the journey with everyone.
Grading and Paving
We cannot express enough heartfelt gratitude to 4th District Congressman Peter DeFazio, our Coos County Commissioners, and everyone from our local Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) for their unwavering efforts in preparing and paving the Memorial. Your dedication and hard work have made a profound impact on this project and our community.
Hundreds of hours were spent by ODOT management, our Point Man volunteers, and the County Road Crew, all working tirelessly to bring this vision to life. It took an impressive 340 tons of asphalt to accomplish this monumental task, showcasing the immense scale and effort involved.
Our excitement doesn’t end there. We’ve also received word that, in the future, the asphalt paving may be expanded further towards Hwy 101 when additional materials and labor become available. This potential expansion is a testament to the ongoing commitment and passion that everyone has for this Memorial.
To everyone involved, we are endlessly grateful. Your contributions have not only paved the way—literally—for this project but have also paved the way for a lasting tribute to our heroes. Special thanks to Larry West for capturing these moments in photos, allowing us to share the journey and progress with all.
