POW-MIA Plaque
The POW-MIA plaque at the David Dewett Veterans Memorial Wayside holds profound significance. It serves as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by prisoners of war (POWs) and those still missing in action (MIAs). The plaque honors the bravery and resilience of these individuals, acknowledging the immense hardship they endured and the enduring hope for their return. It symbolizes a nation’s promise to never forget these soldiers and their families. By commemorating their courage and commitment, the plaque fosters a sense of gratitude and respect for those who have defended the freedoms we often take for granted.
“Conde McCullough Bridge” Rails
Tying the “Old” into the “New”
When the restoration of the Conde McCullough Bridge began, we envisioned linking this stunning bridge with the David Dewett Veterans Memorial. Built in 1936, the bridge needed new rails to comply with the latest safety codes.
Just as with the DDVM, God’s hand has been evident from the start. We’ve consistently sought His guidance. At numerous points in the process, we at Point Man Outpost 101 felt our cup was overflowing, yet our Lord continued to bless us abundantly.
Once again, this grace was manifested when “Hamilton Construction” generously donated and installed three bridge rails for the DDVM. This was a true testament to God’s ongoing grace.
Here is a series of construction photos for you to enjoy and appreciate:
The Blue Star Memorial serves as a poignant tribute to the men and women who have served, are serving, or will serve in the United States Armed Forces. Established originally during World War II, the Blue Star Memorial Highway program has since expanded to include markers at various sites such as parks, gardens, and historical landmarks. The memorial symbolizes the nation’s gratitude for the sacrifices and service of military personnel, fostering a sense of respect and remembrance. It stands as a constant reminder of the courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment of those who protect and defend the freedoms enjoyed by all citizens. Through its presence, the Blue Star Memorial reinforces the collective resolve to honor and support the military community.
The Gold Star Memorial at the David Dewett Veterans Memorial Wayside holds a special place in the hearts of Oregonians. As the first of its kind in the state, it stands as a solemn tribute to the families of military members who have lost their lives in service to the nation. Originating during World War I, the Gold Star tradition signifies the profound sacrifice made by those who did not return home. This beautiful black granite marker, nestled in the serene coastal landscape near Coos Bay, is inscribed with heartfelt tributes. Gold Star memorials often feature a gold star to symbolize the loss and honor of the fallen service members, and this site is no exception. More than just a marker, it offers a place for reflection and remembrance, where the community can gather to pay respects and offer gratitude. These memorials embody the nation’s commitment to never forget the sacrifices made by these brave individuals and their families, fostering a deep sense of appreciation and unity in honoring their legacy.
