Tips for avoiding VA home loan scams

VAntage Point

These tips for spotting and avoiding VA home loan scams come from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Many service members, Veterans and military spouses have been receiving fraudulent calls and mailers from companies who claim to be affiliated with the government, VA, or their home loan servicer. These calls or mailers often try to sway you to refinance your home, agree to a loan modification, or pay your loan via purchased money orders. They may also try to convince you that your home is facing foreclosure.

Bandon by Sea Rotary Donates to SOVO

Many thanks to Bandon by the Sea Rotary for donating $1,000 to SOVO from their annual veterans golf fundraiser.  This money is earmarked for the Coos County STAND DOWN which serves hundreds of veterans each year. The Stand Down, which may be the largest, per capita, in the state,  is only one of the many ways that SOVO serves our area veterans. Did you know that there are 7108 veterans in Coos County alone – and that 552 of them are women?   More than 1 in 5 veterans have mental health issues.  According to the Devereaux Center which serves those who are homeless and have mental health issues, veterans account for 13% of their clients. Thanks to this donation, more will be served.

New Board Members for SOVO

SOVO is pleased to announce the addition of four new board members.  Rick Anderson, Kyle Brown, Teka Brown, and Matt Hays have all agreed to serve on the board. This is great news for the veterans SOVO serves.  Stay tuned for more information as we update the Board page.
